Revit Family of the Week

Detail Components. Brick Details
I have been meaning to post the Detail Components Catagory of families for a while now. Over the next comining weeks I will be attending to the lack of consistancy of the family posts, by trying to flood it with some really cool Detail families.

This is just a start. Spend time on your detail components!

The zip file contains detail components for facebrick and plaster details, also for left and right side of the wall. Once applied to the repeating detail tool, BANG, brick walls in detail sections in seconds.

Do Enjoy!

Dimensions and Constraints
Wall Width Wall Width
Brick Course Height height between joints
Mortar Thk set the thickness of the mortar joints
Center Joint set the center joint half width

Sliding Doors - into Cavity Walls
I have also been meaning to build these families for ages. Doors that fit into cavities either along the wall or with in the wall. These are not the most fantastic doors, however, the objective here is to indicate how the cavities are accomplished. Open the family files and check out the voids.
When starting a new door family delete the current opening and create a new void from a plan view to control the interaction with the wall.

Do Enjoy!

Dimensions and Constraints
Width Opening Width
Height Opening height of the Doors
Wall Width Instance parameter to set the wall width
Cavity width Formula that gets the cavity size from the wall Width

Sliding Stacking Doors
There are two families I have been meaning to build for a long time. A shopfront with nested door options (see next week) and a sliding stacking door system that works. I have a number of clients in the upmarket Residential sector who constantly ask for a stacking system that works well. Well this week I put a bit of thought into it and came up with this Family Of The Week.

Do Enjoy!

Width Opening Width
Height Sets the height of the Stacking Doors
Fanlight Rail Height Sets the height of the Fanlight

Variable Shopfront Window.
This is a great window family for shopfront use, that has a number of variables to play around with and set. Once again from one family comes many options with the use of various parameters. The width is an instance parameter which together with the panel width parameter, controls the array of panels.

Dimensions and Constraints
Width Instance Parameter. Just drag for the desired width of the window.
Head Height Sets the Head Height of the entire system
Height Sets the height of the window
Window Head Height Sets the height of the window to the underside of the fanlight
Bumber Rail Height Sets the height of the bottom bumper rail
Inset Controlls the offset of the window from the exterior face of the wall
Panel Size Sets an equal size for the panels of glass
arrays and divides These are all controlled by a number of formulas. Only change these if you are comfortable with formulas.
Fanlight Visible a switch for the visibility of the top fanlight rail/mullion
Bumper rail Visible a switch for the visibility of the bumper rail/mullion

Revit Family of the Week
This week we look at the introduction of Revit 9, Line Based Families. These are so COOL!
Line based families are supplied with two templates namely Detail Component Line Based and Generic Model Line Based. The uses of which are just unlimited, from counter tops to more advanced families with array formulas. These with a simple line tool. By selecting two points the family is filled along the length of the line between the points.
This weeks example is of a sun screen with an array formula that sets up the centersof the wall mounts.

Dimensions and Constraints
Length Instance. Drag blue toggles to desired length to adjust or edit the length
Depth Sets the depth of the screen from the wall
Beam Centers Sets the centers of the beams
Beam Array Controlled by the Length divided by the Centers
Louvre Centers Sets the centers of the Louvres
Louvre Array Controlled by the Depth divided by the Centers
Louvre Angle Set the angle of the Louvres
Louvre Size Set the size of the Louvres

Revit Family of the Week
This week we have some counter tops.
Not the greatest, most advance families, but I find them extremely useful for setting out areas like kitchens, workstations etc. What makes these counter tops pretty cool is they are set up with instance parameters for the lengths. After placing, one just has to drag the grips or align to the required lengths.
.

Dimensions and Constraints
Length Instance Drag blue toggles to desired length, or use align tool
Depth Sets the depth of the top. 3 Predefined sizes 450mm;600mm;900mm
Height Sets the height to the top of the counter
Counter Thickness Sets the Counter top thickness
Materials and Finishes
Counter top Material parameter for the counter top
